trust me dude... this ain't even the same guy, let alone same music

I had the first track on at work, I asked Bobby who he thought it sounded like, and his answer was 'Iron Butterfly'.

I'm not even kidding.

My thoughts were more first-album Black Sabbath, when they were stonery but still pretty bluesy.

Then the album goes into this dark as fuck, delay-drenched dub song... and so on and so forth.

It's just not even the same guy.

Come to think of it, this has been the best couple of weeks for releases all year. At least for me personally.

Monkey - Journey To The West
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 sound
Scars On Broadway - Self-Titled
Soulfly - Conquer
Xavier Rudd - Dark Shades Of Blue

all in the last couple'a weeks, all in my top 10 albums of the year so far

good times

New Drones is pretty rad. I think you'll dig it if you like their other stuff... it has that same catastrophic vibe to it.

I've always preferred them live to recorded (and even then find them a bit grating) but it tickles me pink to see a band as obscure as them winning all those awards and having mainstream media lick their nuts.

Really? That's fuckin' sick!

I'm hanging for the full animation release... that Gorillaz animator guy is stupendous. There's a YouTube video teaser of it that the BBC used for the Olympics. It's way rad.

Good to hear about The Drones new stuff sounding rad.  Excitement builds!

I'm now listening to Holy Fuck-LP, in anticipation of a Perth show being announced on the back of their spot at Meredith.  They would be phenomenal live I'd imagine.

Oh, I've heard Minotaur.  I thought you were privy to some ultra-early preview listening sorta thing for the whole album.  Minotaur is a damn good song though, thats for sure.

My mp3 collection on random. Of note: 'London' by Noonday Underground, and 'Before You Leave' by Pepe Deluxe. The soundtrack to my TEE... I'm sure there was more music, but those are the two songs I remember from it. Stinking hot, late in 2002, on a bus going through Spencers Brook, listening to JJJ.
