Found out some useful things today i'll share:

here's my set-up-
Pitchblack>EP booster>Bass octave deluxe>CAE wah>Keeler Push (just got rid of a crunch box and metal zone in favor of amp dist)>Peavey Classic 30

FX loop: EQ> Small Clone> babyface tremolo> Flashback delay(buffer on)

1st: Using the fx loop is awesome
2nd: I thought my Keeley twilight metalzone would be great as a buffer at the end of my chain, but alas after many a/b's It was clearly doing something to the tone i didn't like. I'm thinking of putting this at the end in a by pass loop, cause i actually like this pedal
3rd: Crunchbox sounds way better at a higher voltage(I was using 16v from my bbe supa-charger)

Any feedback would be great

From what I gather in the fx loop the boss eq and flashback are buffering. I'm not sure about this.

I just a/b'd the tone with the fx loop plugged in and out. And it's adding something i dont like

I just took out everything in the fx loop but the flashback, then turned the buffer off on it.

It's weird there's still something i'm not liking with the fx loop active with one tb pedal.

I mean with the eq you can sort a lot out, but there's more purity in the tone without the fx loop in atm.

Fucking sucks, now I'm gonna have to do a bucketload of a/b's to get to the bottom of this!!!

Oh well looks like I'm keeping the fx loop the way it was:

FX loop: EQ> Small Clone> babyface tremolo> Flashback delay(buffer on)

Sounds great, there's still a lil something that happens with the fx loop in. Though I like having the FX loop so it's staying.

Maybe if I get rid of the boss eq for a mxr or something tb. Anyone experienced with this?

Oh yeah I really need a new band at the moment, my musical balls are aching from not playing live lately. I have an ad up in the band section (

Some amp fx loops are designed for outboard rack gear, rather than for pedals / instrument level. Check with the manufacturer.

If you really want to use pedals in the fx loop, you can usually fix this with a simple circuit mod. I have modded a few amp loops to take pedals.

some tips for the fx loop noob...

find out if you amp has a line level or instrument (or adjustable fx loop) you want this to match othersiwe you may find fx loops outputs overloading pedals inputs or vice versa. stuff like the ebtech line level shifter are a godsend in this application.

also parallel vs series fx loops...parallel fx loops ideally should have fx units/pedals with "kill dry" functions on them. otherwise when the fx is turned off...your amp still sees a bypass signal running in parallel...which is often mistaken as tone suck (but is really 2 signals running slightly out of phase/cancellation)

where's a good place to get 2.1mm (Boss-type) black cables and ehx 9v adapters from?

The ones i got with my bbe supacharger seem kinda flimsy and i think one's already about to go( i gaffa em all down out've the way)

Is there much difference in quality of these power leads?

I need some anyway just for spares and i need another ehx connector, can someone be kind enough to reccommend a good webshop that stocks these
