I wasn't saying Jazz is better than prog Damo, I was saying anyone fascinated with a band like Korni Grupa will be absolutely blown away by some of Chick Corea's work and in general.. improv/avant grade jazz bands.

At some point, they really became the same thing. But prog feels like rock and roll's attempt to be taken seriously, whereas things like Jazz fusion/Jazz rock, is an attempt to move away from this boring establishment. What we ended up with was a brief period of genius.

And then the second half of the 70's, where the market was truly saturated with so much crap. And everything was called fusion or prog.

I feel the epitome of the era lies in miles davis' work. Bitches brew sessions had a few bits, apart from the title track, corrado and guinnevere are two. Then the Cellar door sessions are another, worth it for the many renditions of What i say, directions and inamorata. One of the few recordings with Keith Jarrett playing electric instruments.

PS: Korni Grupa is pretty nice stuff. Thanks for the listen.

Jazz and prog are very different beasts.

Prog is primarily about songcraft where as a lot of jazz amounts to no more than highly skilled jamming or improv around a set structure. Fusion is the halfway point where the jazzical elements are still there but with a more defined contemporary type of song structure.

That isn't to detract from Jazz though, I'm pretty big on Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis.

What do you know about prog or jazz? You're obviously talking about drumming here, not music per se.
