Im in the market for a new amp... I've previously played through a Fender Reverb 2x12 combo.

Im wanting to upgrade to a head and cab...

Ever since i can remember ive wanted a Marshall stack behind me while i played. Now that im actually ready to buy a new amp, im not so sure :S. Thats because whilst shopping round for the best price i gave an Orange Rockerverb 50 MK II....i was instantly blown away!! then when i tried a jcm 800, i wasnt as impressed as i thought i would be, it was like finding out santa doesnt exist for the first time?!?! or finding out your guitar idol is a complete knob?!?!

and now im stuck.......

So......                                      ORANGE ROCKERVERB 50 MK II      vs.        Marshall JCM800

thoughts?? experiences?? gossip??

oranger rockerverb 50 mkII easily, I love the JCM800 tone but the crunch on the orange is more defined in my opinion.
I am currently selling my sadly at the moment and I will be devo once it is gone as it sits in any mix really well for both rhythm and lead.

The JCM definitly has high expectations in modern day influence as so many artists have become famous for its sound,
The problem though it they also have other tweaks in the chain that enables it to be so beastly on recordings.

Sounds like an easy choice, get the Orange that you were blown away by, not the Marshall that you were unimpressed with.

It doesn't really matter what other people think, get the one you like.
And that is all I have to say about that.

With the Marshall you'd want to remember that most people boost into them pretty hard. Boosting with a Maxon OD808 infinitely improved my Marshall's tone.

Go with what you really want in the first place. I doubt that particular JCM800 settings can be tweaked further for you to feel that it's better than the Orange...
