Hey im looking at buying some hardware and i love drums sounds.

not familiar at all with brands and such but im not looking for transperancy

I WANT CHARACTER!!!!

any suggestions

looking for like a stereo compressor to chuck on the overheads or a drum buss

Im also not the richest person in the world

Distressor - you will need 2 for stereo but they are stupidly good for anything from snares to bass to vocals.

Otherwise any SSL buss compressor clone will probably sound good. Im a big fan of the Neve 33609 too, but thats probably out of your budget.

If you're any good with electronics, you can build an 1176 clone for less than $600- http://www.hairballaudio.com/shop/ (this is what I'm going to do in a couple of weeks time).

Yeah ive looked into the Distressors and know a few people that use them so i might start saving for a pair of them i just wasnt sure how versatile they are

and no way would i think of building my own hahah

They are probably the most versatile compressor you can buy. We had 4 of them at Crank until recently, they get used on every session.

oh man that would be great,
