How's that different from normal avant-garde you say? It's not! The catch is you do that but you DON'T take it or yourself seriously at all, that will make you the antithesis of avant-garde, they will hate you.

I know every stereotypical Floyd fan hates it (it's essentially a Waters' solo record), but I rather like a couple of the tracks from the Final Cut, if only for some of the guitar work.

I find that record to be harsh-sounding in every aspect. Effectively so, but too out of character for most Floyd fans to dig it.

Personally, I hate the album, but I love the lyrics. Go figure.

Final Cut is a funny one, some love it others hate it. I personally love it despite certain lackings in the musical content. its more the dynamics and power in it, nevermind some of Water's best lyrics.
Infact the only weak track in my eyes is Paranoid Eyes, The Gunners Dream and The Final Cut are nothing short of brilliant but it is more a Water's record and it even says 'Performed by Pink Floyd'

I think my least favourite Floyd album is Dark Side funnily enough. MLOR has its weak points too as far as Floyd is concerned

I've never been able to get into it. It's always seemed like a sub-standard version of The Wall, at least to me...

Which is odd, really, as i highly rate The Wall. I suppose i shall have to give Cut another listen soon........ Either that or i give up and put Relics on....

It was the remaining ideas apparently so thats not a bad judgement. That was Gilmour's argument anyway, if it wasnt good enough then etc

I think that's how it began, anyway. On a side note, Gilmour is far more harsh when deling with the Floyd catalogue than any stereotypical Floyd fan could ever be!

I think everything after the Wall lost that classic 'Floyd' sound really, The Final Cut being the better of the three. I think a couple of the MLOR tracks presented well on DSOT, well pretty much everything other than DOW, but its almost impossible to view it as a Pink Floyd album, plus its sounding quite aged where everything else has a sort of timeless feel imo (for the most part anyway, there are exceptions). I dont think they even fit into Gilmour's solo career.
I do like High Hopes though -_-
