Had that once - asked for a water before going up on stage and the guy behind the bar cracked a bottle of Mt Franklin and said "2 dollars thanks" before I had time to react!

I reckon 40 payers for drinks is a good incentive to get bands to bring people. Althought i think they could offer better beer/drinks to sweeten the deal.

Paying for water is fucking stupid.

Well, about a year later...

The 40 payers before you get your rider deal is now gone from the Swan Lounge. Now when you play there you can go in and get a free beer as soon as you get there. WIN!

I assume the other venues are ditching that policy as well but you'd have to check with them.
And that is all I have to say about that.

So I could've got 2 free beers (as could the other 100 people in the band) on wednesday night? :o Why didn't you tell me this?

Well, yes. But you would have had to wait until about 9:30pm when we had the 40 payers. In future you'll be able to get it early on. I had a meeting with the venue fella last week and the policy is now gone.
And that is all I have to say about that.

Swan Basement still don't give the artists any free beers. The Turds of Blokeyo were outraged.

Unless its organized and agreed to beforehand, I dont think ANY band should expect free drinks

mate, thats a fucked thing to say.
you obviously arnt broke and dont play in four bands.

sober rich bastard.

hahahah I only just found this forum, thats a class post

I tend to agree with the majority of posters on here, for instance I used to live on the north coast of nsw, and used to play some decently big venues and do the sound for some bands as well. What really got to me is that we could get free non alcoholic drinks but thats it. The bands got nothing even though they drew massive fucking crowds, even in byron bay where the place is packed out we got nothing.
Free alcohol for musicians. doesnt anyone understand we need to drink! seriously!
