Saturday May 19
The Bakery

Hailing from two of electronic music's most exciting labels, Lapalux (UK/Brainfeeder) and oOoOO (USA/Triangle) bring their unique brand of beatcraft to Perth for a co-headline show at the Bakery this May.

LAPALUX [BRAINFEEDER/UK]

“I like to make music people can listen to several times and still find something new, buried in there somewhere. I enjoy complexities and getting immersed in sound so you forget who and where you are." MartynPepperell.com

Lapalux is 22 year old Stuart Howard, a very talented young man and the newest signee to Los Angeles based record label Brainfeeder (Daedelus, The Gaslamp Killer, Thundercat) Thrust into the spotlight by L.A star-picker Flying Lotus last year, Lapalux released his first widely available E.P, the beautifully woozy "When You're Gone" to critical acclaim.

Sensuous discordant melodies, Hyper colour synths, all topped with a drizzle of pop. Avant-garde tracks packed tight with sounds and samples leave the listener in a hazy, happy, sonic high.

oOoOO (TRIANGLE/USA)

"A spectral utterance from beyond the rave, this is like hearing your dance-pop past dragged up ... slowly" - The Guardian, UK

The overlap between pop and indie culture is one of the inspirations behind the music of oOoOO (pronounced 'Oh'), the moniker of San Fran producer Christopher Dexter Greenspan. Inserting Southern hip-hop, pop and rap influences into an electro-goth and witch house settings resulting in a spooky yet solid sound, and leaves oOoOO difficult to pigeonhole.

Signed to Tri Angle (How To Dress Well, Balam Acab, Clams Casino), oOoOO deviates from standard electronic conventions by taking shoegazey beats into eerily ethereal drag territory. Listening will make you feel like you are travelling backwards on a runaway chillwave ghost-train, and will haunt you long after the ride stops.

The Ocean (Germany) plays Perth

http://lifeisnoise.com/ and Heathen Skulls present:

The Ocean (Germany)
May 27 - Rosemount Hotel, North Perth
w/ Tangled Thoughts of Leaving

5 Silhouettes, their backlit bodies moving frenetically in front of the monstrous LED lighting rigs, flashing synchronized to every little change in the music: watching THE OCEAN perform live is an experience.

5 bodies now, but Berlin metal masters The Ocean are one of few who can attest to having 30-40 past band members. Originating in 2001 in the basement of a World War II aluminium factory, The Ocean is the product of a collaborative effort between musicians from classical as well as rock music backgrounds, formed around frontman Robin Staps.

Despite an ever-changing lineup, the success of the band has remained constant - in the past decade they have supported the likes of Opeth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Cult of Luna and ISIS, and headlined tours all around the world.

Luxurious, tectonic, ingenious, calculated, charismatic, enterprising, dextrous, inventive, unrestrained, fascinating and poignant. If all this doesn't convince you to at least check them out, then seriously, fuck off. - Rock Sound (UK)

A recurring theme throughout their back catalogue is the history of the earth, both literally and culturally. 2007 album 'Precambrian', with discs subtitled 'Hadean/Archaean' and 'Proterozoic', revolves around the early days of this planet.

The 2010 split release 'Heliocentric' and 'Anthropocentric' represents a fundamental and philosophical critique of Christianity. The Ocean make music which is brutal, dramatic and massive in sound, yet still capable of moments of beauty and simplicity. With influences ranging from classical music to Proto-Surrealist novelists to the science behind atmospheric pressure, The Ocean's music will challenge and inspire - and remind audiences of the earth on which they stand as it trembles beneath their feet.

Support on the night comes from local progressive legends Tangled Thoughts of Leaving who will play a special extended one hour set.
